PowerNed is the first utility company in Sierra Leone, a war-torn country in Sub-Saharan Africa, to provide electric power in rural areas. In a public-private partnership with the government of Sierra Leone, PowerNed will provide electricity to approximately 6000 people in the central region of the country. The utility company will provide electricity with a hydroelectric power plant that was rehabilitated by the LionHeart Foundation in 2012, with the help of several investors and the government of The Netherlands.
